Alpine Epic returns for second year

The 2010 Alpine Epic four-day mountain bike stage race is scheduled for February 24-27, 2010. The event will take racers from Mt Somers to Lake Tekapo in New Zealand. Up to 100 two-person teams will pit their skills and endurance against rivals over 243km through high-country stations and Alpine passes from South Canterbury and into the Mackenzie Basin. Knee and rib problems for Weylandt

Wouter Weylandt has had nothing but trouble since this Team Quick Step training camp in Calpe, Spain, earlier this month. He is now suffering from a knee problem and a broken rib. He returned from the camp with knee pain and was ordered to rest the knee for 10 days, but that hasn’t helped. “The doctor again prescribed 10 to 14 days of rest for me, because the knee is overloaded,” he told the Gazet van Antwerpen. Allan Davis has parted ways with Quick Step after one and a half seasons with the Belgian ProTour team. Dutch website wielernieuws.nl reported that Quick Step had not been able to offer the 29-year-old a new contract following the withdrawal of bicycle manufacturer Specialized as a team sponsor. ProTour outfit Quick Step recently unveiled its 2010 bikes whilst training in Calpe, Spain. Vorarlberg-Corratec gets Professional Continental licence

Austrian team Vorarlberg-Corratec announced today that it has received its Professional Continental licence from the International Cycling Union (UCI). The UCI had announced last week that the team’s registration had been approved.
