With 17 specifically designed air vents for, the 2009 model helmet ensures riders are well cooled and are able to breath, while ensuring strong and sufficient safety is on offer.

As well as a great new air vent design, the helmet offers a wide range of new features, including an adjustable GPS custom fit system and a sleek profile.

A Fusion In-Mold Microshell construction will ensure your noggin is safe from most accidents and that your head is well protected.

In terms of comfort, there a a bunch of absorbent pads to ensure you feel nothing but cushion during your ride. The cam-lock strap adjusters are easy to use and the helmet is also CPSC certified.

The helmet comes with a pretty cool design that does not stray too far away from the standard looking head protection available today.

Available in a range of colours the Bell Alchera is sure to cater for the many diverse needs of any rider.

For $50, it’s a decent deal. If you want better, you had better be prepared to spend a lot more, without sounding too negative.

Louis Garneau has released some of the most respected and quality designed cycling products in the past decade, and in particular, his helmet range has been at the top of his portfolio.

With the success of previous releases including the Mundial, Diamond and Venturi helmets, the French Designer has taken the cotton wool of his next product, the Louis Garneau Quartz helmet.

Set for release in 2010, the Quartz helmet offers a lightweight and highly ventilated protective piece.

The helmet carries an interesting design which has a larger than average area of breathing space for the head, while maintaining a high level of safety for the rider.

The new MSB technology (a monocoque structural base that reinforces the perimeter for enhanced protection) allows for widening of the ventilation channels.

A patented Spiderlock Elite retention system allows for easy adjustment with just one hand with the angle of the helmet also able to be tailored for the perfect fit.

By far the standout in the up coming design is the Evacuation Channel technology, in which Louis Garneau’s own Pierre Perron said was critical in ensuring peak performance for riders.

“When we build a helmet, we take into account airflow, since the heat of the rider’s head must be evacuated in order to maintain performance. Moisture channels are designed to let the air in the front of the helmet flow through the helmet and exit at the back to efficiently keep the head cool.”

The Louis Garneau Quartz helmet looks to be one of the top releases in the next year, and while there has been no word on its price at this stage, it can be expected to be fairly expensive.

The most professional helmet to be released by renowned head protection brand Met, the Sine-Thesis makes the most of the company’s top-of-the-line safety systems.

On top of that, the helmet looks and feels great, meaning you will be comfortable when you strap it on to head out on your bike.

Your head will be kept cool via the Gel02 system that features gel pads which do not heat up as the rest of your head does. These pads also work to dispel sweat and will comfortably shape to fit your noggin.

Because of the clever design of this helmet, only about 20% of your head will actually be touching it, meaning there is plenty of room for air to get in and circulate around your skull.

A rigid composite exoskeleton comprises the outer layer of the helmet, giving a tough shell to protect you from serious impact.

Adjusting the unit is also pretty easy, thanks to the Kevlar straps and Safe-T Lite adjustable head fitting system.

On the whole, this an evolutionary helmet that will protect you well and is comfortable to wear.

The Sine-Thesis is at the top of the price range but if you don’t want to sacrifice comfort or safety, it could be an excellent option.

Bell’s second most expensive helmet has eked out a quiet but loyal market following for its classy looks, great fitting options and excellent safety element.

The Ghisallo has allowed many cyclists to live to tell the tale after crashing at decent speeds, proving it does what it is supposed to do.

The designers clearly favoured the angled, sleek look that is now popular amongst road cyclists, but at the same time made sure there were enough air vents to keep your head cool.

But the strongest point of this helmet is its excellent fitting system. Known as Fit-Lock, the system allows you to select the best fit and keep it that way.

The system locks on to your selection and unless you alter it, you won’t have to adjust it again.

Cyclists with small heads will be particularly glad that Bell has produced this helmet, because it accommodates a really big range of head sizes with its different models.

Specialized is targeting top-end road cyclists with its new S-Works helmet, a unit that tries to maximise the amount of cooling and protection for the least possible weight.

Retailing at $240, you would want the helmet to be a pretty good unit, and it certainly goes a long way to claiming status as the best road helmet around.

Although it is perhaps not as aerodynamic as some of its competitors, the S-Works sports a unique cooling vent across the forehead, which stands it out from the pack and makes it particularly appealing to riders who get overheated.

Comfort is also ensured by the Instrap system, which reduces the strap length to fit your shape and makes sure there are no dangly bits to irritate you.

Specialized says this helmet has been wind tested and has proven to be exceptional when it comes to cooling.

So if you need a great helmet that can help you power on through sweltering rides, the S-Works might be a great choice.
