The World Cup mountain bike race in Houffalize, Belgium, scheduled for May 2010 will most likely not be held, due to financial shortfalls. The news is expected to be officially announced Monday night. The Houffalize Commune is expected to cancel the race due to an 80,000 Euro shortfall, according to the Belgian website Actu24.be. Race organisers are confident that the World Cup cyclo-cross race can be held Saturday in Zolder, despite the winter weather which has had a hold on northern Europe. They received special permission to use salt on the course, which runs over the motorsport race track. Lance Armstrong’s return to professional cycling has been praised by Team Columbia-HTC owner Bob Stapleton. Toni Colom has asked the Spanish cycling federation to drop his temporary suspension due to a positive doping control, claiming the case against him is filled with errors.
